I’ve been having loads of fun at NEFFA and DEFFA and such, and while cleaning out my dance bag, came across a note I had jotted down with a partial choreography. I don’t know if I was transcribing an existing dance, or had a partial idea I was writing; but I took the note and turned it into what I think is a new choreography.
Googly Eyed Daffodils
by Luke Donforth
(16) Neighbor R gypsy and swing
(8) Men allemande Left 1-1/2
(8) Partner swing
(8) Long lines, forward and back
(8) Women’s Chain across
(8) Women allemande Right 1-1/2
WHILE Men orbit CCW 1/2
(8) Gypsy same Neighbor L 1x
My concerns for this dance are that the dancers will have too much time for the gypsy in B2 (8 counts for a once around), but prompting to luxuriate in it will hopefully solve that; the other concern is that I’m overusing the swing-> Men allemande L->swing sequence. It can be solved with good programing for the evening, but too many dances with that sequence crowd each other out.
It reminds me of Ted Crane’s dance “All You Can Eat”, which also has the gypsy to gypsy transition, but delays the swing gratification.
The name comes from the fact that daffodils just came up in our yard. I didn’t glue googly eyes to our daffodils, but other folks have to theirs, and I was reminded of the eyes with all the gypsies.
