What a wonderful way to finish 2013! December’s Mad Robin dance started with an energetic crew of volunteers setting up and continued with a plus-sized waltz band (we think we counted 6 musicians at one point!) and many delighted waltzing couples.
At 7:50pm we had a record 54 dancers already, many of them brand new and excited to learn some moves in our beginner workshop. By 8pm the dance was under way, with two fabulous sets played by musicians who had been training in Pete Sutherland’s contradance band throughout the fall. At one point they even marched down the hall after the dancers while playing! Pete Sutherland, Tristan Henderson and Oliver Scanlon then picked up the evening with great gusto and energy.
We also had the joy of welcoming a new caller to the stage for the first time. Sinead O’Mahoney taught her dance well and appeared to be both poised and enjoying herself. Welcome to the flock!
The theme of the evening was abundance: three bands, more than 100 dancers, an overflowing table of desserts at the break, and smiles on every face. Thanks for joining us!
Here’s to a great finish to 2013, and looking forward to another wonderful year of dancing!
