Two 4x4s from a Square and fractional brain

I was at a dance in Glen Echo where Donna Hunt did a Tom Hinds square she got from Sue Rosen called Hobo #3 (a sentence more difficult to diagram than this dance); and the sequence of chains for the women was so interesting I decided to put it into a 4×4. She called at as the #1 lady’s position being the reference for the chains. In the 4×4, I’ve replaced that with “Top” meaning the one closest to the band.

Contra/Four Facing Four

A1 ———–
(8) Lines of four go forward and back
(8) Corner swing, square set
A2 ———–
(8) Top Women Chain on right diagonal
(8) New Top Women’s Chain down the middle
B1 ———–
(8) New Top Women’s Chain on left diagonal
MEANWHILE:
(8) All 4 women Right hand Star (almost) 1x, while gents orbit (a little over) half way
B2 ———–
(16) Partner balance and swing, end facing line of direction

And then once my brain was thinking about 4x4s, another one came out. I’m amused by the 3/4ths of a hey.

Contra/Four Facing Four

A1 ———–
(4) Balance the Ring of 4 (with partner & couple opposite)
(2) Give and Gents take opposite home
(10) Neighbor swing
A2 ———–
(4) Balance the Ring of 4 (one you swung and partner)
(12) 3/4 Hey for four in your line, passing one you swung right shoulders (stay in line of 4)
B1 ———–
(4) Balance the Ring of 4 (your partner and your trail buddy couple. MMWW circle)
(8) Circle Left 3/4
(4) Gents let go, lead 4 to progressed line
B2 ———–
(16) Partner balance and swing, end facing line of direction

The top of A1 could just be the give and take (or circle left 3/4ths in groups of 4), but it seemed odd to have three phrases start with balances but not the top of the dance. Once all four were starting with balances, the name seemed to fit.

The hey in A2 is just in your line of 4. At the ends, you loop and go back into the same line of four. Do not cross over to the other line of four and making it a hey for 8 (something dancers wanted to do in the 6×6 dance with a hey I wrote, even when I mention not to).

As of mid-March, these are untested. I haven’t been able to get 8 people together at a practice party; which means I may have to spring them on an unsuspecting dance.
